šešėlinė vyriausybė statusas T sritis Politika apibrėžtis D. Britanijoje ir kai kuriose kitose, dažniausiai dvipartinėse, Vestminsterio tradicijos šalyse (Airija, Australija, Indija, Kanada) didžiausios opozicinės partijos sudarytas alternatyvus ministrų kabinetas. Vadovauja opozicijos lyderis, yra „šešėliniai“ ministrai („lyg šešėliai persekiojantys oficialias pareigas einančius ministrus“), kurie yra atsakingi ir pasisako dėl kurios nors politinės srities (angl. opposition spokesman). Šešėlinės vyriausybės pareiga būti pasirengus bet kurią akimirką pakeisti valdančiąją partiją ir jos sudarytą vyriausybę, – tai įrodinėjama kritikuojant vyriausybės veiklą, rengiant alternatyvias programas ir projektus. Jai vadovaujantis lyderis ir ministrai kai kada renkami opozicinės partijos susirinkime (D. Britanijos, Australijos leiboristų partijos), kai kada vyriausybės sudarymo reikalus vienasmeniškai sprendžia opozicijos lyderis, turintis teisę pasirinkti visus kabineto ministrus (D. Britanijos konservatorių partija).
